2009 PROJECT HOOP CONFERENCE:

EXCERPTS FROM THREE NEW PLAYS READ AND PERFORMED BY NATIVE ACTORS FOR 2009 PROJECT HOOP VIDEOCONFERENCE

Excerpts from new plays by three of the leading Native American playwrights were read and performed by casts of Native actors during the second half of the five and a half hours of the 2009 Project HOOP National Native Theater and Performing Arts Videoconference on Friday, December 4th. A scene from a recent work by a new playwright and two scenes from one of the most widely produced Native plays were also performed. Following is a listing of the presentations:

PERFORMANCES & STAGED READINGS

At the University of Maine:

Selected scenes from Wood Bones, a new play by William S. Yellow Robe, Jr., directed by Maulian Dana. Technical direction by Zachary Hart.

A full production of Wood Bones will be presented in early 2010 by a new community theater group at the Penobscot Nation in Maine.

 


 

At Columbia University in New York

A reading of a scene from Smoke, by Vicki Ramirez, performed by Muriel Miguel and Muriel Borst of Spiderwoman Theater, New York City.

A staged reading of Smoke was performed at the Public Theater in New York City earlier this year.  It is part of a trilogy Ms. Ramirez is writing.
